From tanking a basement to waterproofing a water feature, the Vandex Cemelast 100 Tanking Kit from Safeguard Europe – the UK’s leading specialist in damp- and waterproofing, and masonry repair solutions – delivers a convenient, accessible solution that is simple and swift to apply. Developed especially for concrete and masonry, the tough, elasticised coating not only protects structural elements such as foundations, slabs and below-ground walls from moisture and water ingress; but also provides sealing solutions for wetrooms, spas and under tiles.
The Vandex Tanking Kit is a sophisticated blend of cement, quartz with well-graded aggregate and selected additives; and can be applied to both horizontal and vertical surfaces because of its excellent initial bonding qualities. Once set, the coating resists extremes of frost and heat as well as carbon dioxide, so it can also be employed as an anti-carbonation coating as part of a surface protection system for concrete in accordance with EN1504-2.
Easy to apply by brush (supplied), the cementitious waterproofing slurry resists water under pressure – up to 1.5 bar of active water pressure – and so is particularly suited to waterproofing underground. It will bridge up to 0.4mm in concrete and can be used to fill cracks and protect areas of potential cracking.
The kit consists of two components: Vandex Cemelast 100 Powder and Vandex Cemelast Liquid, the polymer, which are mixed together using a drill fitted with a mixing paddle.
Each 22.5kg kit contains enough material for up to 11m2 coverage in above-ground use against dampness; and up to 4.5m2 for below-ground waterproofing applications. The pack can therefore be easily scaled to suit the project in hand – from car park to suburban cellar.
The tanking kit also cures quickly – under optimum conditions, tile adhesives can be applied to treated surfaces after 24 hours; and vapour permeable, alkali resistant paints or other decorative coatings after seven days. Any backfilling can be carried out in three days, though care must be taken not to puncture the tanking with sharp tools or material.
Preparation before application is also simple: the substrate should be sound and even, open-pored, roughened and its surface free of voids, large cracks or ridges while any substance that reduces adhesion or inhibits bonding – such as bitumen, oil, plaster or render – must be removed. The substrate may be slightly damp, but must be touch dry, so water leaks must be stopped.
With the Vandex Cemelast 100 Tanking Kit, Safeguard Europe has provided specifiers, surveyors and installers with an easy but durable answer to common waterproofing tasks. Armed with the tanking kit, an operative can protect anywhere that needs robust waterproofing, whether that is a lift pit, a swimming pool, a wetroom or a balcony.
