Makita UK, Britain’s number one professional power tool manufacturer, is the sole tools supplier to the Saint-Gobain Technical Academy in Flitwick, Bedfordshire. This location is home to Saint-Gobain Weber, part of the global organisation that serves the construction industry, where the company’s diverse product range of external wall insulation, renders, tiling products, construction mortars and flooring systems is manufactured.
A variety of Makita power tools, including drill drivers, impact drivers, paddle mixers, stone polishers and mitre saws, are being used in a full programme of one and two-day courses that support the best-practice application of Saint-Gobain Weber’s construction materials, products and systems.
The new facility, one of six Saint-Gobain Technical Academies across the UK and Ireland, is designed to tackle the skills shortage in the construction industry. This has been accelerated with the growing demand for innovative systems such as external wall insulation as a result of the Green Deal and other ECO initiatives. The Academy targets apprentices, applicators, engineers, architects, developers and distributors as well as those wishing to Up Skill via external training bodies. The Academy is expected to cater for up to 1,000 trainees per year in specially equipped hands-on product training areas which are supported with meeting rooms and classroom-style lecture theatres.
“We are delighted the Academy is equipped with Makita power tools as we believe our two company’s share the same commitment to training,” says Kevin Brannigan, marketing manager, Makita UK. “Makita is the only power tool manufacturer in the UK to offer training and several of our courses are City & Guilds accredited. We also have an active programme of Be Safe demonstrations aimed at senior school and technical college students who are hoping to join the construction and landscaping sectors. Our high performance tools are the perfect match for Weber’s expanding product range and target customers.”
