British Gypsum has unveiled a new training initiative designed to support the country’s next generation of plasterers. The Thistle Plasters Partnership sees the manufacturer work with further education colleges across the UK to strengthen training courses and give better access to the latest products, resources and industry expertise.
Created by British Gypsum, the programme recognises the need for closer relationships between manufacturers and education providers. Dave Hall, technical academy manager at British Gypsum, explains: “For many years we’ve worked with a number of colleges, giving support through training and materials. We’ve now decided to formalise these partnerships and create a more robust programme that will support colleges and help students become industry ready.
“Plastering is a highly skilled profession so we want to work with colleges to ensure those taking their first steps in the industry are as prepared and skilful as possible. While plastering is a traditional trade with time-honoured techniques, there are new products emerging all the time, and as a manufacturer, we feel it’s our duty to help trainees feel confident with using the latest materials out there.”
The Thistle Plasters Partnership will give students at 64 further education colleges across the UK access to resources, such as step-by-step videos, brochures and guides, and training and technical support from British Gypsum experts.
As part of the programme, trainees will be able to use a brand new online Learning Hub specifically designed for students and lecturers in further education. As well as featuring presentations mapped to NVQ Diplomas in plastering, learning exercises, videos and new product details, the hub includes a discussion forum where users can chat with fellow trainees and technical experts from British Gypsum.
“We look forward to working more closely with students and colleges, helping trainees build their confidence and expertise, and go on to have long, successful careers in the industry,” added Dave.
