I had the pleasure of being invited up to the NEC for the deuce and live event. If you have been reading plasterers news recently, you would have read a little about the deuce and live show that was happening at the NEC.
The show was the first ever UK-wide event for the construction industry, showcasing the latest developments in products and techniques across the building industry. There were hundred and 40 construction brands at the free event in Birmingham, and I was there.
I was at the NEC super early as I needed to be in Manchester that afternoon for another meeting (always mega busy). I was genuinely shocked at the size of the event, I was not expecting it to be this big, and the amount of people milling around was great and I think the organisers need a good pat on the back for getting people there.
So, what did I do when I was there, well the first thing to do is suss out who was there and who I wanted to see and then look at everything else in between…
The first stand was the British Gypsum stand and I had a good long chat with them about all that is new and also played with the magnetic wall because that never gets old. Their Habito board was being demonstrated and getting a lot of attention which is always good to see and from what I could gather lots of people saw the point to it which is always a good start.
Knauf was also there and a couple of familiar faces for me so a good chat about Airless plaster and a few other products that I have been following and fingers cross we will see a lot more from Knauf in 2016.
Catnic had a huge stand that was great to see and Artex have also launched some new scrim, in fact, two new scrim tapes. One is super fine and used with products that are very thin and when a traditionally thick scrim tape is just too thick and also a super tough and super sticky so it should stay on more than an hour. I also put it to the test when it comes to threading… yes, that annoying strand that unravels on the side and after stripping a whole roll of it I was happy that it was not going to birds nest on me.
Also for a lot of plasterers, Easi-filler is the godsend to making their work look half good, and the producers of Easi-filler have seen this, and it now comes in a ready mix formula that is good but not only that the big bags now come with smaller 1KG bags inside them as well.
Jewson is also launching Jewson Juice, which allows you to earn points on all products bought or hired from Jewson and we all know what points mean… yup, rewards… the more points you get, the bigger the rewards you can unlock and redeem. You can register your interest in Jewson Juice here, and that is where you can find out more information.
Overall the day was very good and informative, and I am looking forward to the next Jewson live. If you did not, make it then you really need to keep an eye out for the next one as I am sure it is going to be even bigger.

Airless Finish Light is a very nice product that we had the pleasure of trailing. Its the best Airless product in the UK to date. 2016 is gonna be big for airless plastering 🙂
