The Plasterers Forum is always keen on getting out and about with its members and at the moment I’m actually on the tools plastering with a couple of plasterers from The Plasterers Forum this week.
Knauf have been commercial partners of The Plasterers Forum coming up for a year now and when I first had the initial meeting with them in Sittingbourne almost 12 months ago I suggested that having a day out for The Plasterers Forum members to look around the factory and have a play with some materials would go down very well.
So when a discussion at The Plasterers Forum came up about a product called MP Finish, I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity for The Plasterers Forum members to come along and have a play with this finishing plaster that can be hand applied and is most famous for being spray applied using a machine.
Knauf has spaces on 18 December 2013 for a maximum of 25 forum members, and the general plan for the day is as follows. We start at 10 AM with the demo of spray application of MP Finish and while that is pulling in, an instructor can quickly give you hints and tips on mixing up and applying the MP finish, and subsequently, you will get the chance to have a go with the material yourself in your own separate bay.
The Knauf instructors will walk around giving any help needed along with suggestions and tips, and then while the hand applied plaster is pulling in we can go back to spray applied and look at flight finishes vs dry trowel.
Once we have finished there we will then travel off for a five-minute drive away, where we will have a buffet lunch, and afterwards, we can go through some other Knauf products in a brief presentation. Knauf have one coat plasters, ready mix plasters, jointing materials and many other products that may be of interest to those that come along on this Knauf day out. It would also be great for The Plasterers Forum members to give feedback directly to Knauf about the products that you will be shown.
At the end of the day there will be an opportunity to have a factory tour and also have a look at the place where plasters are bagged up ready for shipping this tour takes about an hour to do, and you will be very surprised at how interesting visiting the factory can be.
At the end of the day I will potentially be staying in a hotel somewhere within close vicinity of the Knauf head offices and most likely be heading to the local drinking hole for a couple of pints, and I’m sure that those you are travelling down will probably want to do the same as well, which will always be a good chuckle.
The last trip that was organised was with British Gypsum, and it was a fantastic day out, and we got to play with new products have a tour of the mine and look around the factory and later headed out for a meal and to drink plenty of beer and generally have a great night out.
The venue for this Knauf day out is at the Sittingbourne headquarters and if this event becomes a success, then will be organising one to happen up North somewhere to make it accessible to everybody throughout the UK.
If you would like to come on this trip then, please drop me an email to [email protected] with your name and how many are coming along with a contact telephone number.
If you have any questions, please get in touch, and I’ll do my very best to help answer them. If you would like to follow the thread on the plasterers forum and below is a link, you may need to be a member of the plasterers forum directly get full access this is free to do, and if you have any trouble is, then, please also let me know.
