I had the honour of being invited the the The Plaisterers’ Training Awards by British Gypsum Formula. I have been to Plaisterers Hall a few times now for various meetings and having the chance to sit with and eat with some of the most passionate people within the plastering industry and of course I accepted the invitation.
The Plaisterers’ Training Awards recognise the highest standards of achievement in training and education within the UK plastering trade. Since the introduction in 2001 the Awards have grown significantly in content and importance. The 2008 awards were enhanced by the addition of The John G Robinson Trophy, presented to the best overall performing college from the regions, together with a cheque.
Entries are invited for two different award categories each fully reflecting crucial aspects of training, education and life-long learning that has now become a priority focus within the British construction industry.
I decided to ride up on my triumph as the trains were not looking great, and I had a few other things to do along the way back from London so the flexibility of the bike was winning. It was damn cold on the way up and the traffic was hell, but being on the bike meant I could crack on and at 11am I was parked up in an underground car park wearing not much more than a pair of boxers and an odd pair of socks. (I can explain…)
I had my suit in the top box and in 5 minutes I can go from scary, hairy biker to suited and booted charming chappy.
At about 12:20 I was stood inside the Plaisterers Hall with a glass of water in hand (driving) and chatting to numerous people that I have met over the 10 years of working in the industry.
I arrived at our table and saying hello and introducing myself to those I have not yet met. Alan Dedicoat the Awards Compere for today was also on our table. By the way, he is the chap who does the voice of the lottery and strictly come dancing.
The 3 course meal was served, and it was great; I love dinners like this the food is always top draw, and the attention to detail is always perfect, and it seems they take as much pride in the food as we do when it comes to plaster. The catering company was very good, and the waiting staff did a great job as well.

After the awards were all handed out and the closing ceremony was finished we headed across the road to a local pub where we had a drink (lemonade) and chatted some more and generally put the industry to rights.
