British Gypsum plaster has been used to provide a premium quality finish in a series of luxury apartments at the prestigious new build development of The Tower, One St George Wharf, Vauxhall, London.
One of the most sought after apartment buildings in central London, The Tower at Vauxhall boasts high specification properties with 360 degree views around the city. The Tower, which is owned by property developer, St George South London, is one of the company’s flagship developments.
Due to the building’s completely glazed façade, which allows continuous sunlight throughout the day, a smooth plaster solution was needed in the lounge, kitchen, bedroom and corridor areas of the apartments to avoid the casting of unflattering shadows in the intense light.
In line with the high-end specification of the apartments, British Gypsum Thistle Multi-Finish was applied as a skim coat to the British Gypsum GypWall drylining systems to achieve a smooth, hardwearing finish.
Architecture, Urbanism and Design Practice, Broadway Malyan, appointed consultants, Optimise, to design and specify the tower’s plaster and drylining. Richard Tribe from Optimise, said: “Vauxhall Tower is a prestigious project, so it’s critical that every last detail is right. The amount of daylight the building gets throughout the day was a huge consideration, as it meant all imperfections, particularly on the walls, would be emphasised. Thistle Multi-Finish was a great help in eliminating unsightly bumps and allowed us to achieve an excellent, smooth finish.”
The versatile final coat plaster performs well on all suction backgrounds and is ideal for use as a skim coat on board substrates. Its workability and ease of application also make it suitable for intricate jobs, as it blends evenly with the surface to minimise imperfections.
Richard added: “The quality of design and construction of this project had to be perfect and we couldn’t afford to have a sub-standard finish. Therefore, we wanted a plaster solution that we could rely on to deliver a good result. Thistle Multi-Finish is well regarded across the industry and is widely used, so we knew it would be ideal for the job at The Tower in Vauxhall.”
Michael Gavin, from MPG Group, who applied the product, said: “Thistle Multi-Finish was a joy to work with. The product gave such a smooth finish which really showed each apartment off to its full potential, and we would definitely recommend it for similar jobs. It was so easy to use and was great for touching up small areas.”
Concluding, Ross Faragher, Managing Director at St George PLC, said: “Creating a curtain wall building was ambitious and required a lot of specialist materials but we are really pleased with the finished result. Thistle Multi-Finish not only created a great finish, but also provided a high quality, durable base for interior decoration.”
